NEW YORK (September 28, 2012)—Plans are in the works to erect the world's largest Ferris wheel is on New York’s Staten Island, overlooking the Statue of Liberty.
The giant wheel will be 625-feet-tall and carry more than 1,400 people at a time.
The New York Wheel will be higher than the London Eye and the "High Roller" planned in Las Vegas.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the New York Wheel will be "unlike any other on the planet."
The $230 million attraction is being privately financed.
Officials hope to have the wheel turning by the end of 2015.
