LA CROSSE, Wis. (July 22, 2013)—Mary Hvizda, a white-haired, bespectacled drummer from La Crosse, Wis., is a hit on YouTube.
A video of her drum solo at a local music shop had snared almost 2.5 million views by early Monday afternoon.
The video posted on YouTube by the Coalition Drum Shop in La Crosse is called Grandma Drummer although Hvizda, 63, isn’t actually a grandmother and hadn’t heard of YouTube until just a few days ago.
She is, however, embracing the celebrity status generated by her drumstick-twirling performance.
Hvizda started drumming when she was 15 and has played in nearly a dozen bands.
She has put away the drumsticks, but says she still enjoys stopping by the drum store to satisfy her need for a beat.
Hvizda says she's proud so many people have taken an interest in her drumming.
