DINWIDDIE, Va. (August 25, 2013)-- The Great Bull Run, an event inspired by the traditional running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, made its U.S. debut this weekend at a drag strip in Virginia.
About 12,000 attended the event, including spectators, organizer said.
One minor injury occurred on the final run, they said.
Not everyone is on board for the event.
Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the United States said he attended the Virginia event to ensure there was no mistreatment.
Organizers said they're partnering with ranches that supply the bulls and with veterinarians to monitor the animals’ health.
Later events are planned for Texas, Florida, California, Minnesota, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
