Handcuffed Suspect Who Swiped Texas Patrol Car Now In Custody

WHITE SETTLEMENT (December 12, 2012)--Police in White Settlement say the theft suspect who managed to escape from the back of police squad car while handcuffed and make his getaway in the car has been arrested.

A tip led detectives to stake out a location in Fort Worth where Darren Porter showed up and was arrested without incident Wednesday, White Settlement Police Lt. J.P. Bevering said.

Bevering says Porter faces theft, escape and unauthorized use of a vehicle charges.

Bond was set at $225,000 and Porter was scheduled to go before a judge Thursday.

On Friday, officers detained Porter for theft.

He was left handcuffed in the back of the squad car, but managed to lower the window, reach out and open the door.

Police say window switches in the back of their cars have been disabled.
