ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (July 8, 2014) An inmate escaped from a jail in Albuquerque, N.M., by hiding in a laundry basket, but his freedom was short-lived, authorities said.
Kevin Matthew Perkins, 28, squeezed into the basket Monday to escape from the Metropolitan Detention Center.
The basket was taken to another facility and when an officer opened the door of the truck in which it was transported, Perkins jumped out of the basket and ran, authorities said.
Later, Albuquerque police received a report of a break-in at an assisted living complex, where officers found broken glass from a window and followed a trail of blood that led them to Perkins.
Court records show Perkins is jailed on several charges, including robbery and credit card fraud.
