WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 8, 2013)--Police in North Carolina were searching Monday for a man who stole an excavator from a construction site and used it to make off with a 2,000-pound automated teller machine.
Winston-Salem police said someone stole the excavator Monday morning, drove it about 200 yards to a credit union, used the claw to knock over the ATM kiosk, and then loaded the machine into the bed of a pickup truck.
Police said video surveillance showed that a black Crown Victoria with tinted windows was involved, and that the crook may be short because of the way he had to reach for the steering wheel.
