HOUSTON (January 10, 2014) An off-duty Houston firefighter thought fast after he drove up on an 18-wheeler fire, and used the beer the rig was hauling to douse the flames.
Fire Capt. Craig Moreau and his wife were driving home Monday night after a trip to Austin when they up on the 18-wheeler.
A brake problem ignited the fire.
Moreau and the trucker first tried using a small extinguisher to put out the flames.
Moreau says he thought the fire was out, but after crawling beneath the rig to check, he discovered the flames had flared up.
The firefighter then asked the driver what he was hauling.
When he learned it was beer, he had his solution.
The two men began shaking, opening, and then spraying cans of beer on the blaze.
The beer did the trick, dousing the flare-up.
