SMYRNA, Tenn. (February 25, 2013)—Betty LeMaster has discovered that the rock she used as a doorstop for 15 years is not just any old rock, but instead a 450-million-year-old fossil.
LeMaster found the 10-pound rock when she was cleaning up her property.
Later she became curious about it while watching a TV program called "America Unearthed."
Alan Brown of Middle Tennessee State University said LeMaster's doorstop is a piece of fossilized coral that’s a lot older than a dinosaur bone.
