Police Track Down Suspected Tarantula Thief

RICHMOND, Va. (March 6, 2013)—Police in suburban Richmond, Va., tracked down two rare baboon tarantulas with the help of the owner of the shop from which the spiders were swiped.

Aaron Reinhard, the owner of the Beasts and Bugs shop in a Richmond suburb, did some online investigating and learned the tarantulas had been recently sold for $75.

He let county detectives know and soon the case of the missing spiders led to the arrest of Deion T. Dickens, 20, on grand larceny and other charges.

Reinhard told the Richmond Times-Dispatch the "kid was stupid," adding that the baboon tarantulas could easily have been sold for $500.
