BRADFORD, Pa. (March 15, 2013)--A federal prison guard has been charged in an incident in which he shot his own finger in a drunken attempt to remove his wedding ring at his northwestern Pennsylvania home.
Alfredo Malespini III, 31, of Bradford, Pa., was wounded in the March 2 incident.
Officers who were sent to Malespini's home found him with a bloody finger.
He told them he was "trying to get rid of his wedding ring" and decided to "shoot it off," but police say the attempt badly mangled Malespini's finger without removing the ring.
Police say he was taken to a hospital in Erie, Pa., for medical and mental health treatment.
