CARSON CITY, Nev. (December 15, 2012)—A substitute teacher from California is the only heir to a fortune in gold coins found in the home of reclusive cousin who died in June, officials in Carson City, Nev., say.
Genealogical researchers hired to find relatives of Walter Samaszko, Jr. determined that Arlene Magdon is the only living heir to what appraisers say is an estate worth more than $7.4 million.
A court hearing is scheduled Tuesday in Carson City, when a judge is expected to certify Magdon as the lone heir.
Samaszko, 69, had lived in Nevada's capital city since the late 1960s.
His body was found at his home in late June, and a cleaning crew found gold coins and bullion in the garage.
There was enough gold to fill two wheelbarrows.
