KALAMAZOO, Mich. (March 20, 2013)--A public safety officer who was checking a suspicious car that was parked early Tuesday behind a motel in southwestern Michigan was more than a little surprised when a deer clambered out of the trunk, stumbled onto the road and bolted into some nearby woods.
The car’s driver told Kalamazoo Officer David Miller he hit the deer on the road, thought he had killed it, and was taking it home for his family to eat.
Squad car dashboard camera footage shows Miller opening the trunk, and then quickly trying to close it as he spots the deer.
The animal escaped from the trunk, rear first, stumbled and rolled, and then dashed off.
Lt. Stacey Geik said the collision probably just stunned the deer.
