PITTSBURGH (September 27, 2012)—Residents of Pittsburgh’s Polish Hill neighborhood are showing some support for whoever is painting unofficial crosswalks on streets in the area.
A note posted in a nearby park says, "Dear crosswalk vigilantes: Thank you! You made my day."
But city officials aren't happy that someone is taking the brush and the law into their own hands and point out that if an accident resulted from an outlaw crosswalk the painter could be held liable.
Requests for crosswalks have been twice denied for the area since 2009, but city officials say they were planning to install larger stop signs and paint crosswalks in a few weeks.
