Vintage Chevy Auction Draws Thousands

PIERCE, Neb. (September 28, 2013)--Car enthusiasts and collectors from around the world converged Saturday on a small town in northeastern for the first day of a vintage Chevrolet auction, which includes about 50 vehicles with less than 20 miles on their odometers.

Bidding for the highest-profile vehicles was expected to begin around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in a field just west of Pierce, Neb.

An estimated 10,000 people were expected to attend the weekend event.

The collection belonged to Ray Lambrecht and his wife, who ran the Lambrecht Chevrolet dealership from 1946 until their retirement in 1996.

Lambrecht rarely sold cars or pickups that were more than a year old.

While most dealers lowered prices to move inventory, Lambrecht assumed the older cars would appreciate over time, so he stashed them in warehouses, at his farm and other spots.
