RENO, Nev. (February 5, 2013)—Stewie, the world’s longest domestic cat, has died, its owner said.
Guinness World Records declared Stewie the Cat the record-holder in August 2010.
Stewie measured 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.
Owner Robin Hendrickson told KOLO-TV in Reno, Nev., that Stewie lost a battle with cancer at around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
He was 8 years old.
Hundreds of fans flooded Stewie's Facebook site with memories and condolences after learning of the death.
The Maine Coon cat's full name was Mymains Stewart Gilligan.
Hendrickson bought him in 205 from a breeder in Hermiston, Ore.
The previous record-holder, Leo, owned by Frieda Ireland of Chicago, died several years ago.
