DALLAS (September 27, 2013)—Members of a Dallas family say the barking of their pet dog alerted them to a house fire early Friday.
The barks of the 6-year-old rat terrier, nicknamed "Mommy" awoke the residents early Friday.
The dog "was just barking and barking. She wouldn't stop,” resident Grabrala Olade said.
When Olade got up to see what was going on, she saw heavy smoke and some flames coming from the attic.
Dallas firefighters were able to control the fire, but not before it caused serious damage.
One firefighter was injured and taken to an area hospital.
Olade says she took in Mommy as a rescue dog and feels like the favor was returned.
