MESQUITE (March 25, 2013)—A driver was struck by a bullet in the back of the head early Monday when another driver fired 15 rounds at his vehicle in a road rage incident in Mesquite, police said.

Police got a call early Monday morning from a driver who said he was following someone he thought was drunk, Sgt. Brian Parrish, Mesquite police spokesman, said.

Parrish said when the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop in a lane of traffic on a frontage road of Interstate 635, the suspect got out and opened fire at the caller's vehicle.

The victim was taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas in stable condition.

Parrish said the suspect, who called police and drove to the station to speak with officers, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
