AUSTIN (January 18, 2014) The Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT, which manages most of the state’s power grid, issued a Level 1 energy emergency alert Saturday morning after a sudden power plant outage.
Reserves were deployed and the system quickly recovered, ERCOT said.
Normal operations resumed after additional power generation sources came online, ERCOT said.
“We always keep reserve power available when possible for situations like this,” said Dan Woodfin, director of system operations for ERCOT.
“While additional units were coming on-line, system operating reserves briefly dropped below the level that results in an alert.”
