SAN ANTONIO (October 9, 2012)—A 90-year-old woman who was using a motorized wheelchair died Tuesday after a vehicle hit her while she was crossing a street in San Antonio, police said.
A police report identified the dead woman as Erna Zwicke of San Antonio.
Police said she was crossing busy Fredericksburg Road just after 7 a.m. Tuesday when she rolled in front of a vehicle that had just topped a hill.
The report said Zwicke's hearing was impaired and she evidently didn't hear the car approach or the driver sound the horn.
The driver was unable to change lanes and avoid the impact.
Zwicke died shortly after arriving at nearby University Hospital.
Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck the woman stopped and no charges were filed.
The accident site does not have a crosswalk.
