HOUSTON (November 29, 2012)--Former President George H.W. Bush has been in Methodist Hospital in Houston for the last six days after being treated for bronchitis, spokesman Jim McGrath confirmed Thursday.
McGrath said Bush has been cured of his bronchitis but is still in the hospital because of a "lingering cough."
McGrath says the family hopes that Bush, 88, will be discharged by the weekend.
Bush's chief of staff, Jean Becker told the Houston Chronicle the illness was not life threatening, but said there had been concerns it could have developed into pneumonia.
