AUSTIN (January 16, 2014) George P. Bush has raised about $ 772,600 and has more than $2.8 million in cash on-hand in his first political bid for Texas land commissioner.
The grandson of former President George H.W. Bush and the nephew of former President George W. Bush raked in more than $3.3 million in donations between November 2012 and the end of this past June.
His fundraising slowed considerably in the final six months of 2013, however.
Texas Ethics Commission flings also show Bush spent nearly $680,000 campaigning statewide over the same period.
His only major challenger in the March GOP primary is east Texas businessman David Watts, who closed out 2013 raising just $7,000 and spending more than $16,000.
The only major Democrat in the race, former El Paso Mayor John Cook, reported raising $13,000 and spending $17,000.
