HOUSTON (July 15, 2012)--Houston area residents continued to clean up Sunday after homes were flooded by last week's drenching rains.
Harris County officials said Sunday they are still visiting affected neighborhoods and assessing damage to flooded homes.
Officials estimate that 50 to 100 homes were flooded along Cypress Creek in the northwest part of the Houston area.
The creek rose above its banks after getting nearly 16 inches of rain over the past week.
Jerry Turner spent Saturday cleaning up his home.
A work crew had to remove about 7,000 gallons of water from Turner's den.
Residents were hoping for a break from the rain, but forecasters expected scattered rain showers in the Houston area on Sunday.
