Inmate Who Escaped From Texas Jail To Smoke Sentenced

DALLAS (October 15, 20130—Justin McDonald, who escaped from the Dallas County jail in search of a cigarette, has been sentenced to three years in prison for escape.

MacDonald was jailed for a probation violation when he escaped through some open doors on July 26.

In a jail interview, he said he wanted to go outside to smoke a cigarette.

He was sentenced Monday after agreeing to a plea deal.

A witness reportedly saw MacDonald in inmate clothing outside the jail and he was quickly nabbed.

An internal affairs investigation was launched to determine how MacDonald, who was arrested for a probation violation in a drug and theft case, was able to flee.

Investigators haven’t said whether MacDonald managed to smoke a cigarette before he was recaptured.
