Power Failure Leaves State Fair Visitors Trapped High In The Air

A power failure left riders trapped 200 feet in the air on a ride at the State Fair of Texas on the same day the fair’s iconic Big Tex went up in flames.

The riders were trapped 200 feet in the air as the result of the power failure Friday.

DALLAS (October 20, 2012)--On the same day the larger-than-life mascot of the State Fair of Texas went up in flames, the power failed on the 200-foot-tall Stratosphere ride, leaving about two-dozen people up in the air.

The riders were trapped for a little more than two hours Friday night.

Dallas fire officials say all of the riders were manually lowered to the ground by about 11:20 p.m.

No one was hurt.

The Stratosphere swings riders in a circle high above the fairgrounds in Dallas.

It will be closed for the rest of this year's fair.
