KAUFMAN (January 31, 2013)—Authorities were searching for two suspects after an assistant district attorney was shot to death outside the Kaufman County Courthouse Thursday morning.
Kaufman County spokeswoman Pat Laney says Mark Hasse, 57,was walking across the parking lot behind the courthouse annex Thursday morning when he was shot repeatedly.
It’s not clear if Hasse died at a hospital or en route to a hospital.
Investigators believe the two suspects fled in an older model brown of silver Ford Taurus.
Laney said a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to arrests.
Hasse was a Southern Methodist University graduate who had worked as a prosecutor in Kaufman County since 2010.
At a news conference Thursday morning, law enforcement officials called the shooting an attack on the criminal justice system.
Sheriff David Byrnes says shooting a prosecutor is "the next level, you are not supposed to attack this level."
The shooting occurred just before 9 am. Thursday outside of a building across from the main courthouse, Pat Laney of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office said.
The courthouse was locked down after the shooting, but the lockdown was later lifted.
