DALLAS (January 23, 2013)—Collin County Sheriff Terry Box said Wednesday he doesn't consider all gun control unconstitutional after he earlier posted a statement in which he said he wouldn't enforce any laws that violate Second Amendment rights.
In a post over the weekend on his Facebook page, Box said that neither he nor his deputies "will participate in the enforcement of laws that violate our precious Constitutional rights, including our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms."
But in an interview Wednesday, Box said he didn't think the now-expired assault weapons ban passed under former President Bill Clinton was unconstitutional.
He said President Obama's 23 executive actions don't violate constitutional rights, either.
Box's statement blamed "misguided politicians" for seeking to pass misguided laws in the wake of the elementary school massacre in Connecticut and other shootings.
