Texas Capital Murder Suspect Takes Deputy’s Gun, Flees

DALLAS (December 5, 2012)--A man charged with capital murder in the death of a teenager took a deputy's gun, fled from a Dallas hospital and then later surrendered, authorities said.

Franklin B. Davis of Carrollton was back in jail Wednesday, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Davis remained at large for more than two hours Tuesday night until officers found him in a van about a mile from the hospital.

Officials haven't said why Davis required medical treatment.

He’s awaiting trial for the murder of Shania Gray, 16, who was shot and strangled.

Her body was found Sept. 8 along a fork of the Trinity River.

Investigators say Davis was charged earlier with four counts of sexual assault in incidents involving the girl and say they lured her from her school to prevent her from testifying against him.
