SAN ANTONIO (April 5, 2013)--A San Antonio firefighter who was injured in a fall from a ladder as he tried to rescue a resident on a balcony during a fire at a condominium complex remained in the hospital in stable condition Friday.
The firefighter fell about 20 feet Thursday afternoon.
"Somehow in that rescue, a firefighter lost his balance,” Fire Chief Charles Hood said.
The elderly man who was trapped on the balcony was eventually rescued, along with his dog.
He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
The injured firefighter was taken to the hospital with broken bones.
The fire, which was mainly contained to the third floor, destroyed 27 units in the building.
