DALLAS (April 14, 2014) A Dallas County jury returned a guilty verdict Monday in the murder trial of Cristal Paulette Richardson, 29, who was accused of stabbing a man 130 times before castrating him in a hotel room in Dallas.
Richardson had insisted that she was defending herself after she was sexually assaulted when she killed Cedric Lamont Owens in April 2012 after a night of using cocaine, PCP, marijuana and alcohol
Jurors deliberated for almost two hours Monday before finding Richardson guilty of murder on Monday.
The penalty phase of the trial is set to begin Tuesday morning.
She could be sentenced to as much as life in prison.
Authorities say they found Owens' bloody and naked body in the hotel room.
Besides the stab wounds and castration, his throat had been cut.
Police found Richardson sitting outside in a stairwell, naked and covered in blood.
