GRAND PRAIRIE (July 1, 2013)--Police in Garland were defending their actions Monday after a woman was shot to death along with her boyfriend by her ex-husband, who then killed himself.
Grand Prairie police say Dashun Atkins, 39, killed Jenea James, 37, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, along with James' boyfriend, James Doyle, 41.
James and Doyle were found dead in a home in Grand Prairie.
Atkins was found dead later at his apartment.
Authorities say James called police twice Saturday to report she was receiving harassing phone calls from Atkins.
They say she declined to press charges both times.
Atkins' relative also called police shortly before midnight Saturday.
Police say in a statement that "at no time leading up to the shooting did officers have legal authority to arrest" Atkins.
