TEXARKANA (June 16, 2013)—Texarkana Police officer William Sprague, 30, who was hit by a truck after responding to a disturbance involving dozens of people, has died.
Sprague was seriously hurt when a truck whose driver was fleeing struck him early Friday after he responded to an incident that police say involved fights and about 100 at Grady T. Wallace Park.
Police later arrested a suspect on a charge of aggravated assault of a public servant.
Details weren't immediately available on whether the charge would be upgraded.
Sprague had been with the Texarkana Police Department since January 2012 after previous law enforcement jobs in Arkansas.
Sprague was married and had a 4-year-old son.
