PALESTINE (December 3, 2012)—Elton Shawn Sims, a lieutenant at an East Texas prison unit, was charged Monday in an attack on his wife, who’s also a prison employee.
Sims was charged Monday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct and interfering with an emergency call, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said.
His bond was set at $32,500.
The charges stem from an incident Sunday at the couple’s home in which the woman was beaten and a gun was fired in the air, Sheriff Greg Taylor said.
Alcohol may have been involved, Taylor said.
Further details about the woman weren’t immediately available.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said the lieutenant's employment is pending the outcome of the investigation.
Sims works at the Gurney Unit.
Clark declined to release details on the wife's job.
