Texas School District Accused Of Discrimination

BASTROP (February 23, 2013)—The Bastrop Independent School District, where a former principal once gathered all of the black eighth-graders at one campus and then blamed them for bad test scores, will be visited next week by U.S. Department of Education investigators who are looking into racial discrimination allegations.

District officials said they're ready for the visit.

They said the district has addressed such complaints and has implemented a new diversity plan and formed a new diversity committee.

Federal investigators will be looking at six allegations, including claims high school football coaches told Hispanic players to "run like you're crossing the border" and complaints that teachers systematically edged minority students out of applying for the National Honor Society.
