SAN ANTONIO (March 20, 2013)—The New Braunfels-based Scooter Store is notifying 1,800 workers who were furloughed earlier this month that their jobs are being eliminated.
CEO Martin Landon notified employees by e-mail Tuesday night that layoffs take effect March 31.
He noted that the company, which sells motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters, will not close.
Workers were told of the furlough on March 8, but about 300 of them were brought back to work last week.
Landon has not said how many will remain with the company as it restructures.
About 150 federal agents descended on the headquarters in February in what's believed to be an investigation into Medicare and Medicaid fraud, although authorities have declined to speak about the probe.
The company has struggled with cuts in reimbursements and changes in federal requirements.
