AUSTIN (February 25, 2013)--Texas Insurance Commissioner Eleanor Kitzman could have trouble keeping her job as her confirmation goes before state senators for confirmation.
Gov. Rick Perry appointed Kitzman in 2011, after the end of the last legislative session and she faces a formal confirmation process, which is expected to begin in March.
She needs two-thirds of the senators to vote to confirm her nomination, but Democrats have enough votes to reject it.
Several Democrats question whether Kitzman is too soft on the insurance industry at the expense of consumers.
State Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, called her "biased in favor of the industry."
At least one Republican, Sen. Bob Deuell of Greenville, also accused her of ignoring rules.
Kitzman said she welcomes the chance to give senators "complete information."
