Texas Senator’s Office Receives Suspicious Mail

FARMERS BRANCH (April 17, 2013)--A police hazmat team Wednesday was investigating a suspicious piece of mail that was sent to the Dallas-area district office of U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Cornyn’s spokesman, Drew Brandewie, said authorities were sent Wednesday to the office in Farmers Branch.

He said the office was evacuated.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason later said all tests on the package were negative.

Evans says two people in the office were exposed to the package, but said no one appears to be sick.

Authorities are investigating a series of suspicious letters sent to offices around the country, including two letters sent to President Barack Obama and a Mississippi senator that have tested positive on a preliminary basis for poison.
