PENITAS (January 25, 2013)--A 60-year-old Spanish teacher in South Texas accused of having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old female student has been charged.
A spokeswoman for the La Joya Independent School District said Friday that Ruperto Salinas Villalon is on administrative leave.
Villalon surrendered Wednesday on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student.
School police Chief Raul Gonzalez declined to release the nature of the complaint, which stems from an incident to which police responded on Jan. 8 at Palmview High School.
The charge is defined as an educator engaging in sexual conduct, sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with a student.
Villalon was free Friday on $5,000 bond.
