Texas Woman Sentenced In Payroll Check Scam

TYLER (February 13, 2013)—Amanda Henderson, 23, of Longview, has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for her role in a payroll scam in which more than 100 fake checks were cashed.

Henderson must also pay nearly $15,000 in restitution.

In November Henderson pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Mark Alan McCullars of Marshall also pleaded guilty in the scam and he was sentenced last week to more than four years in prison.

Authorities say that beginning in May 2011, McCullars and Henderson created fake identification and bogus documents that appeared to be payroll checks from several businesses.

Some check-cashing businesses in East Texas lost more than $55,000 in the scheme.
