Texas Teens Arrested After Sheriff’s Deputy Shot With Pellet Gun

RED OAK (July 3, 2012)--Two teenage boys were in custody Tuesday at a juvenile detention center after an Ellis County sheriff's deputy was hit in the face by a shot fired from a high-powered pellet gun.

Ellis County sheriff's Lt. Rick White said Deputy Mike Catcher was driving his squad car in Red Oak, about 20 miles south of Dallas, when he was struck Monday night by a pellet that evidently traveled through an open window.

At around the same time, dispatchers received two other calls from the area.

One man reported that his 11-year-old passenger was cut by shattered glass.

White says the 15-year-olds will likely be charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

White says Catcher, who was hospitalized, should recover.
