PORTLAND (June 29, 2012)--Friends and supporters of a same-sex South Texas couple plan to gather in the Gulf shore park where the two were shot as authorities continue to investigate the attack that left one of the teenage women dead and her girlfriend seriously injured.
Police say Mollie Olgin, 19, of Ingleside was killed and Mary Kristene Chapa, 18, was wounded last Friday night in Violet Andrews Park in Portland, about seven miles north of Corpus Christi.
Police describe the suspect as a 5-foot-8-inch, 140-pound white man in his 20s with dark hair.
Police say the motive for the attack remains a mystery, but Police Chief Randy Wright said investigators found no evidence suggesting the women's relationship was somehow involved.
However, the shooting led to an outpouring of support nationwide, especially in the gay and lesbian community.
