Weather-Related Crash On Texas Interstate Kills 3

VEGA (November 23, 2013) A multivehicle traffic weather-related accident late Friday night in the Texas Panhandle left at least three people dead and several others injured.

The accident shortly before midnight Friday involved nine tractor-trailer rigs and two passenger vehicles.

The accident happened as freezing rain was falling on Interstate 40 in Oldham County, just east of Vega , the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

DPS Sr. Trooper Chris Ray said one of people who was killed was a trucker who got out of his rig and then was hit by a passenger vehicle.

One person in each of the passenger vehicles also died.

The names of those victims and further details on the injured weren't immediately released.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of the Texas Panhandle until Monday morning.

Forecasters say the Dallas-Fort Worth area is under a winter storm warning until Monday.
