(July 18, 2008)—An American Airlines flight on its way from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City Friday after a passenger stripped off his clothes, put them back on and then tried to open an emergency exit door, the FBI said.
FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said members of the New England Revolution professional soccer team, who were aboard the Friday afternoon flight, helped subdue the man.
Police in Oklahoma City removed him from the airplane and the Boeing 757 resumed its trip to Los Angeles.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was undergoing a mental evaluation.
American Airlines is based in Fort Worth.
