Texas Deputy Stops Speeder, Delivers Baby Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 25, 2008)—Dallas County deputy Sgt. Bryan Sherman pulled over a speeder Sunday on a busy interstate overpass and ended up delivering a healthy baby girl.

Sherman says when he approached the car he saw the woman already giving birth.

He said he saw it was now or never and he told the young mother to start pushing.

Kemia Mendoza was born a short time later.

Paramedics arrived and took over.

The baby weighed in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and mother and daughter were doing fine at Baylor Medical Center.

New mother Danielle Dansby says she told the baby's father to pull over when she saw the deputy behind them.

She told Dallas television station WFAA that she thought the deputy could help, although she just thought it would be by escorting them to the hospital.

The deputy said the experience is something he will never forget.

Kudos to Sgt.Bryan Sherman and congratulations to the parents. By the way Julian from the "libraqry", does the name Mendoza sound like white anglo saxon to you?

Good job, this is part of what the law should be doing - helping the citizens and I can't think of a better way to help than to assist in bringing a precious baby into the world. Way to go Sgt. Sherman

No, UKNOW. Sounds like this couple acted appropriately and got the help they needed. Unlike the couple in San Marcos with the dog, that did not stop immediately and acted like an idiot when he did stop.
