(August 29, 2008)--The new Roman Catholic bishop of Green Bay, Wis. livened up his installation ceremony by singing part of the old country song "Drop Kick Me, Jesus."
Bishop David Ricken said the song seemed appropriate in the home of football's Green Bay Packers.
Ricken sang the chorus, the words of which are, "Drop kick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life/ End over end neither left nor to right/ Straight through the heart of them righteous uprights/ Drop kick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life."
Ricken said he actually felt the song carries "a certain profundity," and went on to preach a sermon focused on St. Augustine's discovery of meaning through the teachings of Christ.
