HIGH WYCOMBE, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, England (March 23, 2009)—A five-year-old thoroughbred mare named Pandora won’t ever be put out to pasture because she’s allergic to grass and spends most of her time covered in specially designed rugs, which allow her at least to go outside.

Pandora's owner, Emily Pearce, 24, said they first realized the horse had a problem when large lumps broke out all over her stomach.

After a series of creams failed to treat the mystery ailment, a blood test confirmed Pandora was allergic to all grasses.

Her diet is now supplemented with sugar beets, chaff and soya oil, along with a large dose of anti-histamine tablets to help her cope with the grass she does eat.

Pearce said the horse, which is stabled in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, can't be ridden during the peak hours of the day, and during the height of summer she has to stay inside.
