RICHMOND, Va. (April 4, 2009)--A 13-year-old Virginia boy who drove away from his home in a pickup truck with a horse trailer in tow has been found unharmed in Texas, Virginia State Police said.

Sgt. Tom Cunningham said Wyatt E. McLaughlin of Jetersville, Va., was found Friday afternoon by his parents on a rodeo grounds near Weatherford.

Cunningham said the boy had performed at the rodeo grounds several times before and his parents went there on the chance they might find him.

Cunningham says authorities are still puzzled why the boy ran away Wednesday morning from his Jetersville-area home.

He evidently loaded the trailer with the family's two horses and appeared to be equipped with food, extra propane tanks, clothing and his dog.

Wow, this kid acts more like an adult then most kids these days. He new how to drive and not get caught until his parents discovered him and he had plenty of food, clothing, etc. That was a pretty dangerous thing he did and I'm greatful this did not turn out bad.
