PORT HURON, Mich. (June 2, 2009)—The Port Huron, Mich. Police Department has a mummy mystery on its hands—and a mummy, too.

The mummified human remains have been sitting in the department’s property room since 2006.

The 200-year-old cadaver was seized after a medical student reported seeing it for sale on eBay.

No charges were ever filed in the case, but officers note it's illegal to possess a human body without permission.

Investigators are still trying figure out who's the legal owner of the mummy, which they think was stolen years ago.

Police Capt. Jim Jones told the Times Herald newspaper, the mummy has to top the list of the most unusual things they've ever had in the property room.
