BELTON (January 24, 2013)-- Clifton Montague, 27, who’s held in the Bell County Jail charged with murder, has been indicted for assault on a public servant after a jail guard was punched in the face.

An affidavit says the incident happened on Nov. 27, 2012 in the Bell County Jail in Belton.

The jail guard involved told officers that inmates were being escorted from one area of the jail to a recreation area when Montague and other inmates became irate that some inmates might be left behind, the affidavit said.

The affidavit says Montague threatened the guard and then punched the guard in the face.

Montague is charged with murder in the Oct. 11, 2012 shooting death of Latternace Deshawn Newsome, 24.

He’s held in lieu of $1 million bond.

He was arrested in the 400 block of South 2nd Street in Killeen, a day after police issued a public appeal for information about his whereabouts.

Newsome was found shot to death just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 11 at an apartment in the 3200 block of Hereford Lane in Killeen.

Investigators determined he was visiting the apartment when he and another man began to argue.

The argument turned physical and the other man pulled a handgun and shot Newsome to death.
