BELTON (November 21, 2012)--The City of Belton is advising residents that Connecticut-based HomeServe, a water service line insurance company, will be soliciting business from area residents and is not affiliated with the city.
A letter from HomeServe may look like it is coming from the city but city officials say they do not support, provide or endorse this product.
According to a city spokesperson, the city has the responsibility of maintaining a network of public water system delivery lines throughout its water system and that property owners are responsible only for the portion of the line that extends from the water meter to the house.
Belton Public Works Director Les Hallbauer says he receives up to 24 calls a year for reports of water line issues located between meters and homes. According to Hallbauer, houses with plastic water lines have very few leaks due to high durability.
