CENTRAL TEXAS (March 22, 2013)--A $3,019, 674 grant has been awarded to dozens of veterans organizations across Texas including here in Central Texas.

25 Texas organizations received funding from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance.

On that list includes $100,000 given to Mental Health America of Greater Dallas which covers Bell and Coryell counties, and $250,564 was awarded to National Alliance for Mental Illness – Texas which serves Bell County, among others.

McLennan County will receive all of the $50,000 awarded to the Salvation Army in Waco which provides veterans with an extended stay shelter, case management and assistance with establishing housing and professional stability.

Two organizations provide benefits statewide and received a total of $270,000. Those organizations are the Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation and the University of Texas –Pan American Foundation.

The primary source of funding for the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance comes from the $2 scratch-off lottery game “Veterans Cash.”

“These new grantees are projected to serve an additional 3,755 veterans, family members and surviving spouses between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013,” Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Director Kathy Wood said.
